【DETAILS】
Matto developed as an important town along a historic highway, welcoming many travelers and merchants over the centuries. Through these encounters, culture and human connections flourished, traces of which can still be felt in the town’s quiet streets today.
The tour begins at the station and explores the town on foot with a local guide. While visiting castle ruins and temples, you will encounter stories from different periods, including tales of conflict as well as art and literature.
Along the way, you will also visit a long-established wagashi shop that has preserved traditional confectionery-making techniques for generations. Learning about the methods and history, and receiving a souvenir, is one of the highlights of the tour.
This is not a tour focused on flashy sightseeing.
It is a slow walking journey that allows you to quietly feel the atmosphere of the town, savoring both the lingering spirit of the old highway and the rhythm of everyday life that continues today.
