Become a Japanese Samurai & Learn the Spirit of Martial Arts!
Duration: 90 Minutes (approx.)
Learn about the culture of kendo and get in touch with the spiritual side of traditional Japanese arts while acquiring the basics! Our dojo was established in 1786 and has preserved the traditional culture of Naginata, and Iaido. Our instructors help students gain control over their bodies and mind. We respect the traditional manner of martial arts. It’s as the saying goes, “Everything begins and ends with bowing.”
1. Arrival at Shubukan Dojo
First, you will change into “dougi” (kendo uniform). Then you will listen to a briefing on the background, rules, and history of kendo.
Everything begins and ends with bowing in martial arts. In order to understand respect and manners in martial arts, you will learn what bowing means.
You will practice kendo for 50 minutes. You can actually hit your opponent when wearing a face protector.
4. Receive a Certificate
You will receive a certificate and take a photo with the master.
* An optional “tenugui” (Japanese hand towel) is available for a fee.
* You can have your pictures/video taken with your smartphone or camera if you like. It is free of charge.
