【STORY】

Discover the Joys of Circling the World Heritage Island Miyajima
This plan takes you on a sea journey around Miyajima aboard a ferry. Departing from Miyahama Onsen, located on the opposite shore of Miyajima, you will circle the island, visiting Itsukushima-jinja Shrine and seven other shrines from the sea.

■ Explore the Mystical "Island of Gods": Unveil the Secrets of Miyajima!
Famous as a World Heritage site, Miyajima has long been called the "Island of Gods." It is said that the island's shape inspired a sense of divine presence, leading people to worship it. As you sail from Itsukushima-jinja Shrine, you will see the peaks of Miyajima, which resemble the reclining figure of Kannon, the Goddess of Mercy. What kind of Kannon do you see?

■ Begin the Historic Nanaura Pilgrimage: A 1,500-Year Journey, Followed by Oda Nobunaga
Miyajima, with a circumference of about 30 km, ranks among the top 10 largest islands in the Seto Inland Sea, which contains around 700 islands. While Itsukushima-jinja Shrine is the most famous, the coastline is dotted with many other shrines (collectively known as the Nanaura Shrines). Visiting the seven shrines located in various inlets around the island is known as the "Nanaura Pilgrimage" or in Japanese "Nanaura Meguri."

This tradition originates from the legend that the deity of Itsukushima-jinja Shrine circled the island searching for a place to reside. Following this custom, visitors to Itsukushima-jinja Shrine would perform a ritual called “Nanaura Pilgrimage" to purify their minds and bodies. This sacred ritual, practiced for over 1,500 years, was even performed by Oda Nobunaga. Reflect on the historical figures who shaped Japan as you undertake this pilgrimage.

■The captain of this tour is Okushin-san, who owns Okushin-sanbashi(pier), the entrance to the sea, in Miyahama Onsen
The pier, located just across the road from Miyahama Onsen, has been operated as a shipyard for generations by Okushin-san, who also serves as the captain of this tour. In addition to the regular ferry service for anglers, he is well acquainted with the sea off Miyahama Onsen. It is said that customers come from the Kansai region to fish in these waters. You might also hear some interesting stories about this sea area, so please look forward to it!

■ Enjoy the Local Specialty, Anago Bento, on the Beach
Savor the famous anago (conger eel) bento from the long-standing popular store Anago Meshi Ueno at Miyajima-guchi. It is also the head office of “Japanese Garden Ryokan Sekitei,” an Inn at Miyahama Onsen that has gained popularity around the world. We provide this special bento for you to enjoy during a beachside lunch at the midpoint of the Nanaura Pilgrimage.

*Please note that 1% of the sales price of this plan will be allocated to cleaning activities for safe mountaineering and environmental conservation.
