This tour invites you to explore the fascinating world of Shifu—a unique woven textile created by Tsushima Textiles, a company with over 130 years of history. Shifu combines the richness of tradition with the creativity of innovation. Once regarded as a high-status material, this special fabric is crafted using paper threads for both the warp and weft—an advanced technique practiced by only a handful of workshops in Japan.

Of the few artisans who still weave Shifu today, only two companies manufacture it as wallpaper. Among them, Tsushima Textiles is highly regarded for its exceptional skill and quality. Shifu’s defining feature is its natural ability to regulate humidity, thanks to its paper-based composition. It absorbs excess moisture and prevents condensation during winter, making it not only beautiful but highly practical.

Each piece is carefully hand-woven by skilled artisans, giving it a soft, warm, and refined texture. On this tour, you will see, touch, and feel the essence of Shifu—an art form born from meticulous craftsmanship and dedication.
