【OUTLINE】

Join a bamboo basket weaving workshop at Nagaoka Meichiku, a long-established manufacturer of the bamboo fence, engaged in many scenic places such as Katsura Imperial Villa and Shugakuin Imperial Villa. Even a beginner can weave a bamboo basket easily and the finished work can be used as a small article container or the like. Please look at the bamboo fence and others created with a high level of skill equivalent to a Living National Treasure in the studio.

【DETAILS】

Using the bamboo strips plaited into a square-shape, you will weave 'Shikainamikago' basket. The four sidewalls of the basket will be woven with bamboo strips to create waveform. That is why the style of weaving is called "Four-ocean-wave basket." During the workshop, you can learn the history and the ideas of the bamboo fence.

The bottom part of the basket is already prepared so even a beginner can weave a nice bamboo basket without difficulty. The finished basket is suitable for a vase, fruit basket or accessory box, as you like. 

During the studio visit, you can appreciate the bamboo fence made with a high level of skill equivalent to a Living National Treasure. Don't miss the awesome bamboos before being processed. There is a shop that displays and sells interior knick-knacks. The bottle stand made of beautifully processed bamboo from Kyoto is especially popular.
